Kelly and Brent Knoblauch are First Officers flying for Delta Air Lines. They met while working as Delta Interns in 2010 and, although they hail from very different backgrounds, they pursued similar career paths to ultimately return to Delta as pilots.
Kelly (Johnson) Knoblauch grew up on a farm in Humboldt, Minnesota. Kelly first became interested in flying after watching crop dusters work near her farm and attending local air shows. Her first time in flight, she was at the controls as a freshman Commercial Aviation major at the University of North Dakota. She was hired to be a Delta Line Operations Intern in 2010. Kelly served as a Flight Instructor both at a flight school in Jacksonville, FL and at her alma mater. In 2012, she was hired at ExpressJet Airlines flying the Embraer-145 out of Houston, Texas, where she spent three years as a regional pilot. In 2015, Kelly was hired as a pilot for Delta Air Lines, where she flies the Boeing 737.
Brent Knoblauch is from Canandaigua, New York. At age 15 he joined the Penn Yan Flying Club and took his first flight in a Cessna-150 aircraft. On the day Brent turned 16, he flew solo in that same Cessna aircraft – before he ever drove a car. Brent graduated from Jacksonville University, where he earned all his flight certificates and served as President of the Student Alliance and JU Flight Team. He was a Delta Line Operations Intern and later served as a Delta’s Project Coordinator for Pilot Sleep and Fatigue Studies. Brent returned to Jacksonville to serve as the Associate Director of Aeronautics. In 2011, Brent was hired at ExpressJet Airlines flying the Embraer-145 aircraft. In 2014, Brent was hired at Delta Air Lines – the youngest pilot at the company at the time. Brent currently flies the Boeing-717 aircraft and is the Pilot Outreach Manager for Campus Programs.
In June 2016, Kelly and Brent’s son Finn was born. Of course, Finn loves airplanes and traveling with his parents. Kelly and Brent work hard to balance flying and family – loving every day they get to go to work and get to spend together.
